Eyelash extensions are one of Hollywood’s little secrets to looking extra glamorous and have become increasingly popular in the last few years. As most women do not have the time (or patience!) to apply fake lashes each day, these eyelash extensions enhance the length, thickness and fullness of your natural eyelashes – without daily maintenance – and they last for weeks! Are they safe? Are they right for you? Below our experts give you the scoop on this popular trend.
What makes salon quality eyelash extensions superior to other types of eyelash enhancers?
All other products such as eyelash strips, flares, clusters, lash tabs, mascaras and eyelash-growing liquids are limited by your own eyelash characteristics. False eyelash strips involve using a gummy adhesive that touches the skin, and are the least natural looking; they also need to be applied on a daily basis. Flares, clusters, and lash tabs consist of between three to eight eyelash bunches with a node or knot at the end. Application of these involves adhesive touching the skin, or the node is adhered to multiple natural eyelash bases, which often damages the natural lashes and can get glue into your eyes. Eyelash extensions are applied by a professional aesthetician, such as one of Simonson’s “Eyelash Extension Experts,” who are trained in the accurate application of eyelash extensions. They are also applied individually to each lash, away from the base of your eyelashes, which results in a safer and more natural-looking enhancement.
Will eyelash extensions damage my real eyelashes?
No! Since each eyelash extension is individually applied to your natural lashes (away from the base so it never touches the skin) the growth cycle of your natural eyelash is not affected. However, you should avoid rubbing or pulling on your eyelash extensions, as any action that repeatedly puts stress or strain on your extension or your natural lash could cause them to shed prematurely.
How long does an application appointment take and how often do they have to be maintained?
A full set of eyelash extensions may take up to two hours to apply. Since each extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out along with the normal growth cycle of your natural lashes. We recommend fill appointments every two to three weeks in order to replace damaged and old extensions, these appointments take about an hour.
Are there any restrictions about wearing makeup or getting them wet?
You must wait 24 hours to expose your eyelash extensions to water after the initial application. After that 24-hour period, the shine and shape of the lashes will not be affected by water, heat, steam or sweat and they can keep up with your busy schedule. Be sure to use oil free moisturizers, eye creams or makeup removers on or around your eyelash extensions and avoid any cosmetic product or cleanser containing organic solvents, urea, glycols or high concentrations of alcohol. You can also get rid of your eyelash curler, as the extensions are pre-curled and additional curling is not necessary.
What type of eyelash extensions does Simonson’s use?
Simonson’s Salon & Spa uses the LASHE® brand of eyelash extensions, which represent the next generation in eyelash technology. LASHE has an exclusive medical-grade adhesive formulated and produced in an FDA-certified facility in the USA that safely bonds the synthetic eyelashes to the wearer’s own eyelash to mimic natural eyelashes.
